We wanted to hold a shanty sessions that was a bit different from the usual ones in the pubs. The She Shanties sessions are organised for women and others with a relationship to that identity (trans and nonbinary folks welcome). We want to build up confidence of more women and folks of other marginalised genders to participate in all the general sessions so are organising this to build up our confidence to step forward more! 💪🏴☠
About us... Jo G organises folk singing sessions in Rottingdean Windmill & other arts events at the mill with Art Rovers. Jo N is newer to singing and is keen to encourage others who might feel less confident. The song books are a mix of shanties and folk songs – song suggestions welcomed.
After our She Shanty sessions are finished we sometimes join forces with our male seafaring crew to continue singing, all together.
We are supported by the Sarah Morgan Foundation www.sarahmorganfoundation.org
See you at the next one 😊
Cheers! Jo & Jo
